Feldman–Cousins' approach[1] or the unified approach is a type of Monte Carlo method that defines a nonparametric ordering procedure for determining the critical values that define the extent of the confidence intervals. The method is commonly known in the high energy physics community as the ‘Feldman–Cousins’ (FC) method, after the authors who popularized it in the field.
