Higgsteria describes the excitement about the Higgs boson that ramped up ahead of a July 2012 conference in Australia.

The term was first used in New Scientist in an article by Lisa Grossman (published online first 19 June 2012),[1] while the Wikipedia article on Elizabeth Gibney claims that she dubbed the term in Times Higher Education om 19 July 2012.[2]
