Albania
Albania has a small but active community of physicists maintaining collaboration links with various research groups in CERN Member States. Since 2011, thanks to these links and following the initiative of Albanian physicists, several activities have been organised in Albania in connection with CERN, and in October 2014 CERN and Albania signed an International Cooperation Agreement (ICA) to establish a scientific and technical cooperation in high-energy physics. This formed a base for enhancing scientific and educational contacts with CERN with the view of Albanian participation in experiments and other research projects at CERN. To enhance ties with the Albanian high-energy physics community and the Ministry of Science, a delegation from CERN participated in a high-energy physics workshop in Tirana in October 2018.
Following the signature of an ICA with Albania in 2014, engagement with the physics community and the Ministry of Education and Science continues, with a view to strengthening relations. A well-attended scientific event was held in Tirana in April 2023 and included participants from the Albanian diaspora. In December 2023, a consortium consisting of the University of Tirana and the Polytechnic University of Tirana became a Cooperating Institute of the CMS experiment.
