LEP beer bottles

In 1996, the Large Electron–Positron Collider at CERN occupied the 27 km circular tunnel that is now used by the Large Hadron Collider. Following an upgrade that summer, operators observed that the particle beams were no longer completing a full circuit of the ring. An investigation revealed that two Heineken bottles had been placed inside the beam pipe, obstructing the beam. Local police were notified, but those responsible were not identified.
